RYAN KANE CELEBRATES ONE YEAR AT CASINO
“It’s been one year since I took the reigns as the lead restaurant magician at Sho Ka Wah Casino in Hopland, CA. In some ways, it has become my home base- a group of friendly faces for which to share new magic with each week. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and very proud that the management has felt so confident in me as to keep me around for a whole year.
“Restaurant magic is a challenging and rewarding style of work for my industry. Many say that the most demanding part is consistently having new material to perform, and getting those new tricks to top the ones you showcased the week before.
“Personally, I find the most difficult part simply remembering everybody’s name. Sho Ka Wah has a surplus of happy regulars who come each Thursday to dine and watch my magic. Knowing who has seen what tricks can be mind-blowing in itself.
“But overcoming that challenge has lead to great rewards. Most of the people I have shared my magic with I will never see again- or at least not until next year’s holiday party or company luncheon. But I rendezvous with the folks at Sho Ka Wah several times each month, and I have built relationships with many of them. I know stories about their kids, have seen postcards of their trips abroad, received gifts and feedback, and just shared an abundance of laughs.
“But enough reminiscing, time to figure out what this week’s trick is going to be…”
